Kenneth Ernest Bright was born in Higham, (Newmarket Q1-1918 3B:611), son of Albert and Lily Susannah BRIGHT (née SAYLE). He had two brothers, twins, James Albert [1916-2000] and Joseph Robert [1916-1995]

His father died in the Army in 1918.. see here


His mother married Francis H BURCH in 1921.

In the 1939 register his mother and stepfather were at 42 Desning Hall Cottages, Higham. stepfather [19-1-1888] a joiner/carpenter; mother [13-6-1893]; half-brother Walter BURCH [31-3-1924] an apprentice carpenter and brother James A BRIGHT[15-8-1916] a bricklayer. His other brother Joseph R [15-8-1916] a carpenter, was at 40 Middle Green, Higham with his grandparents Harry and Agnes S SAYLE and his uncle Ernest SAYLE.



Avro Lancaster Mk 1 of 106 Squadron, Ser.No. ED385, c/s ZN-? took off from RAF Syerston, Nottinghamshire on 3rd/4th September on a raid to Berlon. Piloted by F/O. F W. Roper. It is believed it was brought down by flak, in a forest between Burgdorf and Uetze (some12 miles NE of Hanover).
All the crew were killed, they were:-Pilot: F/O. Leslie Walter Roper (RAAF), Flight Engineer- Sgt. Kenneth Ernest Bright (RAF), Navigator- Sgt. Andrew Steel Carscadden (RAFVR), BombAimer- W/O Kenneth Douglas Wellwood (RCAF), Wireless Op/Air Gunner- Sgt. Harry Fisher (RAFVR), Air Gunner- Sgt. Ernest Albert Cannon (RCAF), Air Gunner- Sgt. Ronald Clifford Woolnough (RAFVR).
All are buried in Hanover War Cemetery.. Sgt. Bright, F/O Roper and Sgt. Fisher are in collective grave 3:F:8-10
